THE CORRELATION BETWEEN PROCRASTINATION LEVEL AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF ENGLISH FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNER IN HIGHER EDUCATION AT STKIP PGRI TRENGGALEK
"Academic achievement is the final grade obtained by students in each semester which shows the success they have achieved. Procrastination does not only mean delaying work, but also includes psychological aspects such as fear of failure and very high standards of success.
This research uses a quantitative approach by collecting data from 92 students in semesters 2sc, 4th, 6th, and 8th through questionnaires and academic achievement records. The research instruments used have been validated and are considered reliable in measuring levels of procrastination and academic outcomes. The results showed a significant positive correlation (r = 0.250, p = 0.016) between procrastination and academic performance, indicating that higher levels of procrastination were associated with higher academic performance. However, the strength of the correlation is low, indicating that there are other influencing factors.
Questionnaire data analysis was carried out quantitatively using a Likert scale in IBM SPSS 25.0. Research findings from the procrastination questionnaire received a supportive response with a total score of 6.520. This shows that time management, intrinsic motivation, and procrastination have a significant correlation on student academic achievement.
The conclusion of this research shows that time management and intrinsic motivation play an important role in academic performance, while procrastination has a negative impact that students need to be aware of. Practical implications for educators include the need for training in time management and motivation strategies, while students are encouraged to increase self-awareness regarding the negative impacts of procrastination.
Further research is recommended to explore other factors influencing procrastination and to develop effective interventions to reduce procrastination in academic contexts. Thus, it is hoped that the results of this research can make a positive contribution to educational development, especially in improving student academic achievement through better time management and motivation.
