AN ANALYSIS OF TEACHER’S QUESTIONING STRATEGIES DURING THE CLASSROOM INTERACTION AT SMPN 2 BENDUNGAN
"This study investigates the use of questioning strategies by English teachers to enhance students' critical thinking abilities and create an active learning environment. The research, conducted using qualitative methods, focuses on eighth-grade English teachers at SMPN 2 Bendungan in the 2023/2024 academic year. The study uses interviews, documentation, and observation as research instruments. From the insterview results reveal that understanding students' background helps teachers identify potential learning problems and encourages active student participation. Questioning strategies also enhance students' understanding, confidence in expressing opinions, and overall learning quality.The research also reveals that teachers adapt questioning strategies to class situations, ensuring students understand the material and increasing participation and motivation. Observation data reveals that teachers use various questioning strategies in classroom interaction, grouped into three stages: apperception, main activity, and closing. These strategies facilitate student interaction, engagement, and understanding during the learning process. In conclusion, English teachers actively use questioning strategies in classroom interaction to check students' understanding of previous materials, attract their attention, support their contributions, and motivate them to learn. The findings suggest that this research can benefit students, teachers, schools, and future
researchers."
